What is MacuShield®?

MacuShield® is a meso-zeaxanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein food supplement, derived from marigolds. MacuShield® is tested at leading research institutes, and endorsed by eye care professionals.

What are the main ingredients that MacuShield® contains?

MacuShield® contains:

  • Meso-Zeaxanthin 10mg
  • Lutein 10mg
  • Zeaxanthin 2 mg

Other ingredients:

  • Sunflower seed oil, Marigold extract and beeswax.
  • Capsule shell: Gelatin, glycerol.
  • Colour: Iron Oxide.

These are the three macular carotenoids . Research suggests that this is the optimum blend to provide the greatest possible benefits.

What makes MacuShield® unique?

MacuShield® is the only supplement to contain the three macular carotenoids . The unique carotenoid being meso- zeaxanthin, which is located at the centre of the macula, where vision is sharpest.

What is Meso-zeaxanthin?

Meso-zeaxanthin is one of the three macula  carotenoids . Research has shown that meso-zeaxanthin is generated at the retina  from lutein, however scientists believe that some individuals are unable to perform this conversion. In fact, a recent study from the US has shown that the antioxidant  potential of macular pigment is enhanced when meso-zeaxanthin is present.

Where is meso-zeaxanthin found?

Meso-zeaxanthin, is located at the centre of the macula  where vision is sharpest. Meso-zeaxanthin has been identified in certain foods including salmon, trout and shrimp. The meso-zeaxanthin in MacuShield® is a derivative of the marigold flower Tagetes Erecta, sourced from Mexico.

Does MacuShield® contain gelatin?

MacuShield is now available in a fish based gelatin capsule

Does MacuShield® contain gluten?

No, MacuShield® does not contain gluten.

I am a smoker / ex- smoker can I take MacuShield®?

Yes, you can take MacuShield® if you are a smoker / ex-smoker as it does not contain beta carotene.

Can MacuShield® be taken by diabetics?

Yes, MacuShield® does not contain any sucrose (sugar) so is safe to be taken by diabetics.

What age is it recommended to start taking MacuShield®?

MacuShield® is recommended to people over the age of 50. However, if you have a close relative, sibling or parent, who presents with low macular pigment, it may be advantageous to take it sooner.
